Day1
We will meet in Bakersfield and have our safety meeting around 7am and plan on departing at 730 am. We need to get an early start today to stay on pace. Be sure to have a full tank of fuel. On the first day of this tour our goal is to carve our way Northward to the high desert through the canyons in Sequoia National Forest and arrive in the late afternoon in Death Valley. Our approximate mileage for today is 297 miles of riding.
We will leave Bakersfield and begin heading Northeast through the Sequoia National Forest through deep canyons and plenty of twistys. We will stop at various locations along the way for brief breaks and picture taking opportunities. Passing through Lake Isabella we will take in the beauty of the lake as we continue to the high desert. Each canyon we pass through will put a smile on your face, as we steam full speed ahead towards our goal; Death Valley
After reaching Lake Isabella we will head East through the Walker Pass climbing in elevation and then descending sharply into the Mojave Desert. As we come into the high desert we will make our way south to the Randsburg ghost town stopping there for a small break.Randsburg is a functioning ghost town and its old rustic buildings will take back to days gone by, during the early mining of yesteryear. Leaving there we will tour through the small town of Johannesburg and then head north.
Riding Northeast we will pass through Trona, a desolate high desert town along a almost deserted road that will offer up spectacular views of the most unusual rock formations in the desert. Many movies have been shot in this area near the Trona Pinnacles.
As we leave the Trona area and head North we will come to the Eastern side of Death Valley. Leaving the main road we will take a delightful and at times goaty road. Yes its paved, but its in bad shape in places. As we traverse through this remote area, the views will unfold from every rolling hill, and twist in the road. Expansive and vast Death Valley begins to paint a tranquil picture of beauty before our eyes.
Reaching Stovepipe Wells we will take on fuel and begin our final push through Death Valley, and into the small town of Beatty, Nevada. From Stovepipe Wells we will take a super fun road with plenty of sweeper turns arriving in the evening at our destination. After fueling up we will check in at our hotel, and then sit down for dinner. And yes its Nevada so there is some options for gambling at our hotel and casino.
It has been a long rewarding day, and the night is still young. And as we say our evening goodbyes, your mind wanders to the coming next days events. A smile crosses your face and you know that your opportunity has come.
Day 2 is going to be nothing short of spectacular. AS we leave Beatty and begin to head into Death Valley we will travel to our first, and brief destination, Rhyolite Ghost Town. The remains of this old town are visible from the side of the road and offer up a glimpse of what life might have been like in the early 1900’s when this small town thrived.
As we leave headed West, we will enter Death Valley. You will once again experience this small road and its sweeper turn delights as we travel to our next destination in the park. The weather this time of year is mild and the temps are cooler, but if we are lucky, Spring flowers will be in bloom. And the beauty of the desert will unfold in front of us as we descend into Death Valley.
As we travel to Dante’s View we will take in the small Borax works site and see its history and then continue on. headed South we will ride to Dante’s View. At over 5400 feet in elevation Dante’s View offers up an incredible view of Badwater which lies below it, at over 200 feet below sea level. As your mind grasps the beauty of this view, you realize that we will also be taking you to Badwater later in our tour. A grin forms and you know that the ride there is going to be awesome. It isn’t even noon yet. And soaking in this sight, your senses are overwhelmed with the vastness of this area. And then it is time to go. Headed South again.
Riding through twist after twist, and remarking in the ever changing colors of the desert we will find ourselves traveling to the Amargosa Opera House for a quick peek inside before arriving in Shoeshone for lunch.
After lunch it is time again to feed our senses and continue on with our journey. As we loop through the canyons on gentle turns and roller coaster hills we will find ourselves headed North to Badwater.
Arriving at Badwater you will notice two things right away. The expansiveness of the basin and the incredible beauty of the white contrasted against the brown desert floor. Badwater is lowest place in the United States at over 200 feet BELOW sea level. We will stop here for a bit to explore and let you take in the uniqueness of its beauty. Walking out into the basin and turning around you will se where sea level actually is on a marker sign on the side of the hill. And reaching down to touch the salt basin you realize that the formation you are walking on is made up almost entirely of pure table salt. Its tangible beauty you can see, taste, and feel. This is an incredible picture taking opportunity so break out those cameras and get busy.
Sadly we must leave Badwater and contnnue onward. But the day isn’t over yet. We are headed to Artist’s Palete, by way of artists drive. This fascinating little section of road will take you all the way back to your childhood, with a twisty roller coaster ride that dumps you onto Artist’s Palete. It will be afternoon now and the colors of the Artist’s Palete will come to live on the side of the hill and dance before your minds eye. What a spectacular view this is for anyone to see. Are you still smiling? Well the thrills continue as we leave and head out again for more roller coaster action on the Artist’s Drive. Rolling hills, sharp twists, and ever changing colors of the deeply cut canyons that we will ride through will delight your sense.
And like most good things this day too will come to an end. Heading into Furnace Creek we will fuel up and take a quick break. And then its off again to Beatty, Nevada for the night.
And after arriving and getting fuel we will settle into our hotel for dinner and whatever other opportunities that the night may have for us. It has been another incredible day and your still amazed. And the tour isn’t over yet. Our next day will bring us even more spectacular views and an incredible ride through this remarkable place.
Day 3 is going to awesome. After a good breakfast it is time to dive in and begin heading back. But not before taking in more of this incredible place. As we leave town we will head North today and enter the park from the Eastern side.
After an incredible ride through the desert we will wind our way down through the canyon to Scotty’s Castle. Arriving at Scotty’s Castle you will find a magnificent set of structures resembling a castle. And as we take the small guided tou the fascinating origins and history of this place will come to life. In short this place was built by a wealthy businessman, and the caretaker, Death Valley Scotty took care of it and promoted it. But the unusual part is he told everyone that it was his.
In reality he lived in a small cabin on the property. And even after the businessman discovered Scotty’s lies, they remained close partners. In fact Scotty is buried on this property. We will take you on a fascinating tale of deception and intrigue as we explore this property.
After taking in Scotty’s Castle we will head to Ubehebe Crater. Almost sounds like the heabee jeebees doesn’t it. But arriving you find that it is an expansive crater will another smaller accompanying crater as well. Looking downward into the rater we will stay on the rim. And while the walk to the valley floor below would be almost effortless, coming back to the top be a highly strenuous event. And with that in mind we will be content to drink in the vastness of this place and take some pictures.
And then our riding day will really begin. Leaving the crater we will travel Southwest in the park making our way to Panamint Valley, through the canyons and hills.
After reaching the Panamint Valley we will fuel up and once again make our way through Trona. Has this been a spectacular tour or what? Your mind is still racing to keep up and the beauty of the surrounding scenery continues to unfold before you I new and exciting ways. The day is not over and our riding will continue.
After leaving Ridgecrest we will continue through the Mojave Desert and over Walker Pass into Lake Isabella. From there we will head West out of town. We may select a route on the fly. And it may seem repetitive, but you don’t care. Because since we rode through this on Day 1 you were calculating the time before you would get to ride this area gain. Grassy, treeless ranch land offers up remarkable roads that take us to the end of our tour.
It has been an action packed 3 days. We are tired and yet fulfilled.
This is our ride. This is our journey. This is what makes riding in California a dream to others. We are privledged to live here and ride here. And we would be honered to take you to these amazing places.
Ride with us on our Death Valley Motorcycle Tour. A sport touring riders paradise. Your adventure begins here!!
