Day 1

Day1

We will meet inSaratoga and have our safety meeting around 7am and plan on departing at 730 am. We need to get an early start today to stay on pace. Be sure to have a full tank of fuel. On the first day of this tour our goal is to carve our through the Santa Cruz mountains and make our way Sorthward hrough Big Sur and along the Central California coastline to San Simeon. And as simple as that sounds don’t let this fool you. Today is going to action packed, with plenty of twisty roads and spectacular picture taking opportunities. Our approximate mileage for today is 195 miles.

Leaving Saratoga we will begin twisting through the Santa Cruz mountains and make our way to Redwood Basin SP. Riding through the redwood trees is a special experience. Its a slower pave through this area, but there is a lot to see. We will continue on heading through Boulder Creek to the 35 and across to Soquel San Jose Road, before reaching SR 1 and heading South.

After traveling through the Monterey area and through Carmel, we will arrive in Big Sur for lunch. We have a few special places here in mind, and the food will be excellent. All kidding aside by this time you ill have worked up an appetite, and the eating establishments we visit do not disappoint.

Following lunch we will head South again along the SR1. And here is where the twisty fun begins, winding along the coast. The magic of the Central California coastline unfolds itself and wraps us along this twisted landscape of intense beauty. We will have a few stops along the way for picture taking and small breaks. And as we ride this section your eyes will soak in the beauty of this magical coastline, and your spirit will be refreshed in every turn, and every moment of the ride.
Almost to San Simeon we will  at the vista point to take in the elephant seals frolicking on the beach. Hunted nearly to extinction for their oil-rich blubber, elephant seals have made a remarkable comeback. Protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act, they are expanding their range outward from remote islands and are now colonizing selected mainland beaches such as Piedras Blancas in the southern range of Big Sur, near San Simeon.  Elephant seals come ashore and form colonies for only a few months of each year to give birth, breed, and molt. The rest of the year the colonies disperse and individuals spend most of their time in pursuit of food, a quest which involves swimming thousands of miles and diving to great depths.

Arriving in San Simeon we will check into our hotel rooms and then make our way to dinner. We have some options for dinner here. Our favorite is mexican food. But whatever we decide on we will share our day over a great meal and remark about the upcoming day ahead. Today has been incredible and challenging. And yet its not over.

And no trip to San Simeon would be complete without a trip to Hearst Castle. Depending on the timeline and season we may be able to catch a late tour or even a very special evening tour, where history comes to life with the staff and volunteers being dressed in period attire.

Hearst Castle is an amazing place with so many things to take in during the tour, that it is not possible to see it all. After taking the optional tour, or in the case that you opted out of the Hearst Castle tour, we will  settle into our hotel rooms and rest ourselves. Tomorrow can’t come soon enough. And yet it seems so far away.

Day 2
Day 2 is going to be nothing short of  awe inspiring. Leaving San Simeon we will make our way to Cambria to take on fuel and eat breakfast. Your mind is still taken back by the previous days ride, and your anticipation of today has reached its peak.

Leaving Cambria we will head East taking either the 46 or Santa Rosa Creek road through Paso Robles and stop in San Miguel for a quick break at the Station 3 Coffee House. After a brief break there we will fuel up in San Miguel and begin making our way towards Ft Hunter Liggett, we will wind through the back roads around Lake Nacimiento through gentle turns and gentle hills.

Arriving at Ft Hunter Liggett we will take a short break, and depending on how the day is progressing we may opt to take the tour of the mission. And this is where our day is about to get even more interesting. Following our break at Ft Hunter Liggett we will begin heading west towards the coast making our way along Nacimiento-Fergusson Road.

This road starts out with gentle turns and great sweepers and eventually turns into a downhill twisty goat fest. ALong this road we will also take small break for pictures and continue on to Big Sur. And as we come down the last section of this road you will have one of the most incredible views of the Big Sur coastline. You have to see this for yourself.

We will stop again for lunch. We will decide on the fly if we will stop in Big Sur again or make our way to Carmel. But in any case the food will be delicious and well deserved after riding this far today.

After lunch we will make our way North again, taking in a second dose of the Monterey coastline and making our way back to the Santa Cruz Mountains. Once we have reached Santa Cruz we will take another short break, and then continue on through the Santa Cruz coast and then North through the Santa Cruz mountains ending our day in Saratoga.

At this point it has been an exciting tour filled with awesome motorcycle roads, great food, spectacular scenery, and good company. Our tour is concluded and we will say our farewells. And as we depart a smile will cross your face as you anticipate riding this area again.

This is our ride. This is our journey. This is what makes riding in California a dream to others. We are priveledged to live here and ride here. And we would be honored to take you to these amazing places.
